Maddy Williams | Assistant Coach
After serving as a veteran voice and leader during Indy Eleven’s first season in 2022, forward Maddy Williams will bring some additional structure to that role as a player/assistant coach during her second campaign with the Girls in Blue in 2023.
Willams saw action in nine matches, making seven starts, as part of Indy’s 2023 USL W League Championship squad. She tied for the team lead with nine goals and added an assist. The team finished 12-1-1 and won its second straight divisional title.
The launch of the W League allowed Williams a successful return to the sport with Indiana’s Team in 2022. The ex-Purdue standout was one of three players to appear in all 13 matches and provided 10 goals (just one behind team leader Katie Soderstrom) and an assist in 885 minutes of action. Williams made club history on June 10, 2022, when her three-goal outburst during the middle of the first half against Flint City AFC earned her the first hat trick in the Eleven’s burgeoning W League history.
The Toledo area native brings unmatched experience to the squad, having played overseas in recent years with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven (2018-19) and Spanish club Real Zaragoza (2019-20) following a historic career at Purdue University. With the latter, Williams led the Spanish second division with 13 goals and had Zaragoza primed for promotion until suffering a season-ending injury in February, just prior to COVID shutting down the league.
Williams left West Lafayette as Purdue’s all-time leader in both goals (38) and assists (26) after a five-year career from 2013-17, helping the program to heights unseen in years. She got a fast start as a freshman in 2013, setting the Boilermakers’ freshman record with 26 points, courtesy of a record-tying 10 goals and six assists. She saved the best for last during her 2017 redshirt senior season, when she collected a program-record 14 goals to go along with eight assists, helping her to the Big Ten Forward of the Year award along with Second Team All-American (United Soccer Coaches) and Third Team All-American (Top Drawer Soccer) accolades.
