Veteran Netminder Rejoins Mark Lowry; Eleven Sends Noah Powder to Tulsa in Return
INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, July 5, 2022) – Indy Eleven added a veteran presence to its goalkeeper room today with the acquisition of Sean Lewis via trade with FC Tulsa, which received defender/midfielder Noah Powder in return.
“This is a fantastic new challenge for me. I cannot wait to start working with the team, and I am very excited for the opportunity to represent this club and this city,” said Lewis, whose status for tomorrow’s match at Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC remains up in the air with the acquisition still pending league and federation approval.
With his addition to the Eleven, Lewis has been reunited with Lowry, who coached the native of Rockford, Mich., in 2016 with Jacksonville Armada FC, then Indy Eleven’s foe in the North American Soccer League. Since then, Lewis has played in 90 regular season, postseason and U.S. Open Cup matches over seven seasons with Jacksonville (2016), Penn FC (USL Championship, 2017-18), and FC Tulsa, where he made 61 appearances since 2019, including 12 in 2022.
“Sean Lewis is a known quantity who can provide some stability and experience at the goalkeeper position alongside Tim Trilk across the second half of the season,” said Lowry. “He knows this league well and has seen success in it, and we’re excited to welcome him into the squad.”
Lewis began his professional career in 2015 with one season abroad in Australia’s National Premier League with Olympia Warriors. Prior to turning pro, Lewis played four collegiate seasons in his home state with Western Michigan University (2010-12) and Oakland University (2013).
Powder’s brief Indy Eleven tenure ends after he contributed one goal and one assist in 12 contests (nine starts). The New Jersey native and Trinidad & Tobago international signed with Indy Eleven in January and crossed the 100 games played threshold in USL Championship regular season action back in April, building upon his previous time with NY Red Bulls II and Real Monarchs SLC.
Following Wednesday’s match at Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (7:00 p.m. ET, live on ESPN+ and SiriusXM FC), Indy Eleven will continue its five-in-seven swing of home games this Saturday, July 9, when it welcomes Detroit City FC to the Circle City to kick off a new regional rivalry. The USL Championship match at 7:00 p.m. ET (live on MyINDY-TV 23, ESPN+ & Exitos Radio 94.3 FM/exitos943.com) will serve as the nightcap of a day-night doubleheader featuring the two sides’ USL W League women’s teams in a Great Lakes Division showdown at 2:00 p.m. (live on ISC Sports Network & ElevenSports.com).
Fans will only need one ticket to access both games of the doubleheader, which are available starting at just $15 and can be purchased online at indyeleven.com/tickets.
