Club Confirms Its Women’s Pre-Professional Squad Will Compete Under the Indy Eleven Banner; Westfield’s Grand Park Events Center to Serve as Venue for Five of Six Regular Season Home Matches, Including W League Opener on May 6
TAMPA/INDIANAPOLIS –Alongside the United Soccer League, Indy Eleven today announced the 12-match calendar that will comprise the Inaugural Season for the organization’s entry in the USL W League, the new nationwide women’s pre-professional league kicking off this spring.
The organization also made official that its Women’s Senior Team participating in the W League will compete using the Indy Eleven identity and utilize the same name, logos, PUMA jerseys, and other branding initiatives as its Men’s First Team in the USL Championship and the Academy squads representing Indiana’s Team in USL Academy competitions.
“Our organization is proud to have these women that will represent the club on the field and in the community do so under the Indy Eleven banner,” said Indy Eleven President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Stremlaw. “We believe the widely-established standard of branding all teams associated with a club under the same identity that is used across the world’s greatest soccer teams helps to promote unity. We know our W League players, coaches, and staff will feel that same level of pride and respect when they wear our crest and colors starting in May.”
Like its Men’s First Team and Academy set-ups, the Indy Eleven W League side will call the Grand Park Sports Campus its home for training sessions beginning when the squad gathers in April. Indy Eleven will also host five of its six W League regular season home dates at Grand Park in the facility’s indoor Events Center on Field 2.
“Grand Park is one of the finest facilities in the country, which is why we have our Men’s Team, Academy, and now Women’s Senior Team all train here,” said Phil Presser, Indy Eleven Sporting Director, Academy Operations & W League. “As we piece this roster together, you will find that most of the players will have competed here prior with Indiana Fire ECNL, making the environment very familiar for the staff and the players. Almost as important, the youth academy will be up close and able to observe, train with, and watch games to further their development. The culture being created for the youth is exciting and one that we all want to be a part of.”
As announced on Wednesday, Indy Eleven will compete in the Great Lakes Division, an eight-team circuit that includes Indiana’s Team and clubs from Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky.
Indy Eleven’s 12-game regular season slate against Great Lakes opposition – and, as the league’s schedule currently stands, the first match in W League history – will begin Friday, May 6, at Grand Park with a 7:00 p.m. ET kickoff against Kings Hammer FC. The squad’s regular season and conclude on Saturday, July 9, as part of an Indy Eleven-Detroit City FC doubleheader at IUPUI Carroll Stadium that begins with the W League fixture at 2:00 p.m., followed by their USL Championship men’s tilt at 7:00 p.m. The squad will host four additional matches in between, including a three-week run of Friday 7:00 p.m. kickoffs in June against Midwest United FC (June 3), Flint City AFC (June 10), and Racing Louisville (June 17), and a 1:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, July 3, against Kalamazoo FC.
