INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven made its first new player signings ahead of the 2022 USL Championship official today by welcoming the former El Paso Locomotive FC duo of defender Mechack Jérôme and midfielder Bryam Rebellón to Indiana’s Team. Indy Eleven also announced it will retain the services of goalkeeper Bobby Edwards for a second season in 2022. Per club policy, contract terms surrounding the signings will not be released, and both new signings are pending league and federation approval.
Jérôme and Rebellón both helped Lowry and Locomotive FC to USL Championship Playoffs appearances in each of the club’s first three seasons, including trips to the Western Conference Finals in 2019 & 2020.
“The way I’m trying to build the locker room and the culture of this club as we rebuild, a lot of it's about bringing that winning culture. Guys that want to win every single day, no matter what they're doing whether it be games or in practice, and these initial signings of Mechack Jérôme and Bryam Rebellón definitely embody that,” said Indy Eleven Head Coach Mark Lowry. “To have that familiarity of the standard already in the locker room to help bring people along is massively helpful.”
“From all accounts Bobby Edwards was a fantastic servant for the club in his first year here, and I’m looking forward to having him be a part of our goalkeeping department,” continued Lowry. “We're excited to work with him and develop him even more next year.”
In addition, the club also made official the departures of several players from its 2021 roster, including:
- three players whose loan term ended following the season – Liam Doyle, Aidan Liu, and Patrick Seagrist.
- six players whose contract expired following the season – Tobi Adewole, Jeremiah Gutjahr, Carl Haworth, Gershon Koffie, Nick Moon, and Kevin Partida.
- seven players whose contract options for 2022 were declined – Rece Buckmaster, A.J. Cochran, Jordan Farr, Emmanuel Ledesma, Aboubacar Sissoko, Peter-Lee Vassell, and Gordon Wild.
- discussions with A.J. Cochran regarding a possible new contract for 2022 are ongoing.
“On behalf of Indy Eleven, I want to thank the players departing the club for their efforts on behalf of the organization and our fans,” said Indy Eleven President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Stremlaw. “Like so many people in countless industries, these athletes have had to shoulder additional challenges to perform their jobs over the last year or more due to the global pandemic. A special thanks goes out to them for the extra responsibilities they shouldered in representing our club and in keeping each other safe in the process.”
Jérôme is a familiar face to the Eleven faithful, who watched the Haitian National Team staple take on Indy from 2015-2017 as a member of Armada FC. The 31-year-old defender stayed in Jacksonville for the 2018 season before joining Lowry at Locomotive FC for the last three seasons, during which he registered 56 appearances. Jérôme has appeared in 200 professional contests, including 104 in USL Championship regular season and playoff action combined with El Paso, Charlotte Independence (2015), Montreal Impact Reserves (2014), and Orlando City SC (2011-12). Jerome also spent the 2013-14 seasons with Sporting Kansas City – including the squad’s MLS Cup winning campaign in 2013 – and ranks as the third most capped player in Haitian senior team history with 74 appearances.
Indy Eleven marks the third stop at which Rebellón will play for Lowry, the native of Colombia also having served under the English skipper across the last three seasons in El Paso and with Jacksonville Armada FC during the 2017 NASL season. Rebellón began his professional career playing for clubs in both Colombia (Santa Fe and Llaneros) and Argentina (Sarmiento and Villa Dalmine) from 2011-15 before coming stateside, where he has also competed for USL Championship sides LA Galaxy II in 2016 and Swope Park Rangers (now Sporting KC II) in 2018. In all, the 29-year-old midfielder has scored six goals and added three assists during 115 appearances in five seasons of regular season and postseason action in the Championship.
Edwards makes his return to the Boys in Blue following a solid first season with the squad in 2021. The third-year pro and former FC Cincinnati performer registered a 72.2 save percentage (26 of 36 shots saved) and 1.43 goals against average in his seven appearances, all starts, during the 2021 campaign. Prior to joining Indiana’s Team last season, Edwards performed for Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati in 2020 and began his pro career with Portadown FC in the Northern Ireland NIFL Championship in 2019.
Indy Eleven will continue to make additional announcements surrounding its roster and coaching staff leading up to the 2022 preseason beginning in February. Following is the club’s 2022 roster as it currently stands:
Goalkeepers: Bobby Edwards
Defenders: Neveal Hackshaw, Mechack Jérôme, Karl Ouimette, Jared Timmer
