Playoff Picture Out of Range
Despite Indy Eleven pushing their destiny into the final three matches of the season, the “Boys in Blue” were eliminated from playoff contention with their 3-0 loss to Miami FC on Saturday afternoon.
With two matches left, Indy Eleven has garnered 32 points from 30 games and sits sixth in the Combined Season table, two spots off the coveted fourth place playoff position. The two teams in front, New York Cosmos and Jacksonville Armada FC, have collected 38 points from 29 games. Since the pair will meet once more, meaning one team will collect at least one point to put them at 39 (or above), Indy is pushed out of contention at least seven points off the mark with two games to play.
Indy still has to face Puerto Rico FC next weekend, but more importantly, North Carolina FC on the final day with the potential to shake up the postseason race.
Jon Busch Top Again
Out in front once again, Indy Eleven goalkeeper Jon Busch continues to lead the league in saves with just two matches left.
Making 103 saves on the year so far, “Buschy” is set to shatter Miami FC ‘keeper Daniel Vega’s 2016 record of 106 saves with a pair of opportunities left. The 20+ year MLS veteran has not revealed his plans for the 2018 season but has already broken the club record for wins, saves, clean sheets, GAA, and appearances.
Gerardo Torrado Pulling Strings
Honored pre-game for his illustrious playing career, midfielder Gerardo Torrado put on a clinic Saturday afternoon in pulling the strings in midfield with 70+ touches, almost more than double any of his midfield teammates.
Torrado completed over 87% of his 55 attempts – 47% of which went forward – and completed four key passes in the build-up to various Indy Eleven attacks. On the defensive front, Torrado won 80% of his tackles and 70% of his duels while also making three interceptions and two clearances.
Torrado will hang up his boots at the end of the year and take a position with the Mexico Soccer Federation after an incredible playing career.
